The Problem

You go to start your GM vehicle it runs a few seconds and dies, or will not start at all, and the “Security” light is flashing or stuck on solid.

This common issue is likely caused by the Passlock Sensor wrapped around the Ignition Lock Module.

You may have heard or tried:

"As you go to start the engine, if the “Security” light flashes or stays on, wait ten minutes with the key in the ON position until the light goes off. Then turn the ignition to the OFF position before attempting to start the engine again."

Your vehicle may start but this quick fix could be temporary and you may have to go through the whole frustrating process again and again.

The GM Vats Passlock Bypass Kit was designed to bypass the "Passlock Sensor" on the above listed vehicles, and keep the “Security” light off forever.

In GM vehicles there's a group of three thin wires going between the Body Control Module (BCM) and the Passlock Sensor wrapped around the ignition switch. They are Black or Orange/Black (signal return), White or Red/White (power), and Yellow (signal data). The yellow wire is the wire that furnishes the needed signal to the BCM to tell it that the correct key has been used to turn the lock cylinder to the ON position.

By removing the radio from the dashboard and reaching through in the radio compartment toward the steering wheel these wires can be quickly accessed for the bypass repair.

Once bypass is complete the vehicle will now register the correct key is being used with the correct resistor/chip. As such any standard key cut the same as your key will now start the vehicle (Resistor/chip key is no longer required). Any remote start should now work as well as long as the wiring used for the bypass has not been modified.

This will guide you through Installation on a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am but the steps are similar on the other models listed above. There are only basic differences to pull out the radio to access the wiring.

This is by far the easiest, most reliable repair for this issue that I have found.

No soldering of wires required

Easy screw in terminals

Simply & Permanently Fixed
